According to the research carried out by Statista in 2013. A large number of people have switched to the use of IPTV from traditional means of television services like cable TV and satellite TV. This number is yet to be increaes in the coming years as more and more people will be switching to the use of IPTV for streaming live shows, movies and to use other premium services like VOD (Video On Demand).
Though the number of cable and satellite tv users had decreased catastrophically, they still remain the most common way of Pay-TV distribution used in United States.
Statista also forecasted that by 2020 the number of IPTV users will increase dramatically all over the world. With china being the top most country in the list with over 77.22 millions of subscriber, second nation would be United States with 16.14 million, France with 8.74 million IPTV users, then Japan with 7.19 million and Russia with 7.13 million of users.

Segregating the household Internet Protocol Television usage from the above data mentioned, We get to know that the number of household IPTV users has increased over the time. Statista put the data for the last 5 years, which clearly showcased how the number of iptv users worldwide had take a great leap from 78.6 million users in 2012 to 136.5 million in 2016
With the increase of the number of users, the revenue has also sky rocketed in the past few years. Statista presented data on IPTV revenue in the United States in 2014 and a forecast thereof for 2020. According to the forecast, the revenue will increase from 8.2 billion in 2013 to 9.5 billion U.S. dollars in 2020.
